Before I redesign my blog and called it Eddiewordz, it was BleedsBlacknPurple, a reference to my love for my city’s 2 time Super Bowl Champion Ravens. Seeing how yesterday was the first round of the NFL draft, I figured, why not blog about the newest member of the Ravens Flock, WR Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, drafted 25th overall.
The diminutive but lightning quick receiver out of the University of Oklahoma, is expected to end the trend of labeling or home grown receivers “bust.” Breshad Perriman, drafted with the 26th pick in the first round of the 2015 draft, was the last of the three first round picks to fail to live of to the expected production for a player drafted that high.
Newly promoted General Manager, Eric DeCosta, traded 3 spots down from his original picking order and was still able to grab the first WR selected in the draft, nabbing an additional 4th and 6th round pick in the process. Pairing “Hollywood” Brown with last year’s gift from former GM, Ozzie Newsome, the last pick of the first round Lamar “Action” Jackson, is an unprecedented move by the the Ravens franchise.
Traditionally, the team had built its success around legendary MLB, Ray Lewis and its brutally stingy defense. With former Super Bowl MVP QB, Joe Flacco now in Denver, the team has obviously chosen the new face of the organization. And now, he has what Joe “Cool” Flacco never had, a true game breaking number 1 receiver to grow with.
